Event Info - Shaw and Partners 20 Beaches Ocean Classic

The weather has unfortunatley made it necessary to run the race in Pittwater

Please see below for the event timings

Saturday 11th December

9:00am - 10:30am - Race Registration - Station Beach, Palm Beach

10:30am - Race Briefing - Station Beach, Palm Beach

11:00am - Wave 1 Race Start - SUPS and Prones

11:10am - Wave 2 Race Start - Women Ski and OC1s

11:15am - Wave 3 Race Start - Mens Ski

11:16am - Wave 4 Race Start - All Doubles

Finish - Station Beach, Palm Beach

Presentation - Station Beach, Palm Beach (as soon as we can after the race finish)

Race Registration

At race registstration, you will recieve your race number, timing chip and your 20 Beaches Race Shirt.

You will need to show us your

  • QR code check in

  • Vaccination Certificate (you must be double vaccinated)

  • Mobile phone with SafeTrx installed (or a VHS radio)

  • PFD

  • Leg leash

  • Whistle

Please allow plenty of time for your registration

Mandatory Equipment and Rules

Please ensure you have the following equipment as we will be spot checking. Anyone who does not have the required equipment will be disqualified and not permitted to race. 

  • Lifejacket

    • All Lifejackets must be an approved Australian Standard AS 4758 or International Standard ISO 12402 Lifejacket.

    • All surf ski, outrigger, plastic and sea kayak paddlers must wear an approved minimum Level 50 / Level 50S Lifejacket. Your lifejacket must be Hi-Vis or a Hi-Vis top is to be worn over the top of the lifejacket. No bum bag inflatable lifejackets are permitted.

    • Prone paddleboard paddlers only are permitted to wear an approved Lifejacket Level 100/150 bum bag inflatable lifejacket. A Hi-Vis top must be worn.

  • Safety Leash – All competitors must be attached to their craft via a safety leash.

  • Mobile Phone (using SafeTrx App) or VHF Radio or PLB (Personal Locator Beacon) – All competitors are required to take one of these with them during the race. If using a mobile phone the SafeTrx Event tracking app is required and the event channel will be given to those using VHF Marine Radios.   • Whistle – All competitors are required to have a pealess whistle attached to their Lifejacket.

  • Timing Chip – All competitors must wear the electronic timing chip on their ankle (right or left ankle). This will be provided at registration.

********Scrutineering of compulsory equipment may take place at registration on race morning. Please ensure you have the correct equipment**********

All competitors must abide by the following race rules:

  • Wear / carry the mandatory equipment as outlined above

  • Register for the event on the morning of the race (or on the Friday) and collect the timing chip

  • Attend the pre-race briefing prior to the start

  • Stop and help any other competitor/s in difficulty whilst on the course

  • Follow the event course at all times

  • Follow the direction of water safety officials at all times

  • If a competitor withdraws mid-event they must notify the event officials either in person or by phone to be formally withdrawn from the event.

Post Race

With covid restrictions we are unable to provide any post race hydration, please self cater.

Water will be available but you will need your own drinking vessel.

Entry Deferral

We appreciate that with an Ocean Race conditions are continually changing, should you feel that the race conditions on the day are beyond your skills and experience and you wish to withdraw from the race. Please let us know and we will gladly roll you entry over to next years race.

The event safety number is 0421 709 649– please ensure you have this in your mobile phone for the race. 

  • If you register but do not race, you must text us your name and race number

  • If you pull out during the race, you must text us your name and race number

  • If you need assistance call us, but keep the line free for emergencies

Help us hold a Covid Safe Event

We are a registered Covid Safe business and are dedicated to making the race a Covid Safe event. Please help us and follow these guidelines:

 – Stay home if you are unwell and get tested

 – Practice social distancing and stay 1.5m apart

 – Wash hands frequently

– Please follow the direction of staff and Covid marshals

Please Note

All competitors must carry their own water. There will be no water supplied before or after the race.

The Course

The course will be advised at the Race Briefing tomorrow, distance will be approx 15km

Refreshments - Post Race

We shall have a coffee cart (Wax & Grind) at the Start and Finish - serving drinks, brekkie wraps, chicken wraps, toasties, crossiants, fresh sandwiches, muffins and slices

Please note the Boathouse Cafe at Palm Beach is temporarily closed. The nearest sit down venue to the finish is Dunes Palm Beach, approx - 800m away.
